Where to use it?

The SMI Surgery Guidance technology is designed to link the patient's eye coordinate system automatically from pre-surgery diagnostic to intra surgery treatment in the OR without artificial markers. In or at the OR microscope all relevant surgery information is visualized as an real-time overlay to the surgeon.

This brings benefits to all ophthalmic surgeries, where predictability, consistency, precision as important as workflow. SMI now offers solutions for intraocular lens (IOL) surgery, while corneal and other surgery applications will follow soon.

The SMI Surgery Guidance for IOL includes e.g.,

  • Patient eye confirmation
  • Incision planning
  • Capsulorhexis planning
  • Toric IOL alignment
  • Multifocal lens centration

"Now, surgeons are able to position IOLs and incisions with the SMI Surgery Guidance technology automatically, consistently and accurately relative to the patient's eye. By substituting manual markers, it simplifies the surgery workflow, increases confidence and ensures predictability."

“I'm using the SMI Surgery Guidance system now for quite some time routinely for all my toric and multifocal patients. Everything works excellent and intuitively, so I haven't use the markeur for weeks. I don't want to give the SMI Surgery Guidance system away anymore.”
